Meet the IPT Doctor: Interview with Dr. Martin vonRosen (November 2026)

MEET THE IPT DOCTOR

Dr. Martin von Rosen: Bridging Classical University Medicine and Integrative Care with Low-Dose Targeted IPT

An interview by Dr. Donato Perez Garcia

In this edition of Meet the IPT Doctor, I sit down with a colleague and friend whose career shows what happens when rigorous internal medicine meets an open, curious mind. Dr. Martin von Rosen has practiced medicine since 1996, served as President of the International Association for IPT (IAIPT) from 2018 to 2023, and today leads a clinic for holistic medicine in Germany. We talked about his path, his first encounter with Insulin Potentiation Therapy, and what it took to bring low-dose targeted IPT into everyday practice.

Dr. Martin von Rosen, MD — Specialist in Internal Medicine

Dr. Donato Perez Garcia: Martin, thank you for joining me. Let's start at the beginning. How did your medical career take shape?

Dr. Martin von Rosen: Thank you, Donato, it's a pleasure. I began practicing as a physician in 1996 and specialized in internal medicine. That training in classical university medicine is still my foundation. It taught me discipline in diagnosis, respect for evidence and, above all, to look at the whole patient rather than only one organ or one lab value.

Over the years, though, I kept meeting patients whose needs were not fully met by the standard pathways alone. That pushed me to look further: not away from conventional medicine, but beyond its edges.

Dr. Donato Perez Garcia: When did you first hear about IPT, and what caught your attention?

Dr. Martin von Rosen: My formal introduction came in 2007 in Munich, where I was trained by Dr. Desanka Petricevic-Riedl. What struck me immediately was the physiological logic behind it: using insulin to make cells more receptive, so that medication can be given at considerably lower doses. As an internist, I understood the role of insulin very well, so the concept made sense to me from the very first day.

Later I deepened my training with you, Donato, and learning from the family that developed IPT over three generations gave me a much richer understanding of the method, its history and its fine clinical details.

Dr. Donato Perez Garcia: What does "low-dose targeted" IPT mean to you in practice?

Dr. Martin von Rosen: For me it means precision and respect for the patient. Rather than asking how much a patient can tolerate, we ask how little is needed and how we can direct it as well as possible. Patients who have been through difficult treatments, or who are frail, value an approach that takes their quality of life seriously.

At the same time I'm very clear that IPT is a medical procedure. It requires a trained physician, careful patient selection, close monitoring of blood glucose and a team that knows exactly what it is doing.

Dr. Donato Perez Garcia: Tell us about the day you decided to bring IPT into your own clinic. What was that beginning like?

Dr. Martin von Rosen: After my training I knew this was something I wanted to offer, but I also knew it had to be done properly. So the beginning was very much about preparation: setting up protocols, training my team, defining how we monitor every session and deciding which patients were good candidates.

I still remember the first treatments: a mix of concentration and excitement for everyone in the room. Over time it became an established part of what we do, and it shaped the identity of the whole clinic.

Dr. Donato Perez Garcia: Your clinic combines several approaches. How does IPT fit into that broader philosophy?

Dr. Martin von Rosen: Our clinic is built on holistic medicine. We combine Traditional European Medicine with innovative treatments such as EECP (enhanced external counterpulsation), HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy), Oxyven and IPT, always on the basis of classical university medicine.

IPT is not an isolated tool for us. It sits within an individualized plan that looks at the patient's overall condition: circulation, oxygenation, metabolism, nutrition and lifestyle. The aim is always to support the whole person, not only to treat a diagnosis.

Dr. Donato Perez Garcia: From 2018 to 2023 you served as President of the IAIPT. What did that period teach you?

Dr. Martin von Rosen: It was an honor and a great responsibility. Leading the International Association for IPT gave me the chance to work with colleagues from many countries and see how differently the method is practiced around the world.

My priorities were quality and collaboration: sharing experience openly, promoting proper training and standardized protocols, and building bridges with conventional medicine. A method is only as credible as the physicians who practice it, so education and professional standards must always come first.

Dr. Donato Perez Garcia: What advice would you give a physician who is considering learning IPT?

Dr. Martin von Rosen: First, get proper training from experienced teachers. Second, keep your conventional foundation strong, because your knowledge of internal medicine is what keeps your patients safe. Third, stay humble and keep learning from colleagues. Every patient teaches you something, and an international community like ours is a great resource.

Dr. Donato Perez Garcia: Finally, what keeps you motivated after almost three decades in medicine?

Dr. Martin von Rosen: The patients. When someone tells you they finally feel heard, and that their treatment respects them as a person, that is the best reason to keep going. Combining the best of classical medicine with thoughtful, individualized approaches like low-dose targeted IPT is, for me, what good medicine should look like.

Thank you, Martin, for your dedication, your leadership in the IPT community and your commitment to integrating science with a truly patient-centered approach. It's colleagues like you who carry this legacy forward.
